Беларус у Амерыцы выпадкова штурхае амерыканца і просіць прабачэння:
- I'm sorry.
Амерыканец тут жа ў адказ:
- I'm sorry too.
Беларус, падумаўшы, адказвае:
- I'm sorry three.
Амерыканец:
- What are you sorry for?
Беларус:
- I'm sorry five!

I've read an article about possible causes of cancer - it's interesting to see what people believe and what experts say.

Linka,
that's why these professions - translators and interpreters- will always be in demand

трудности перевода
i think that if you learn chinese you'll also have mistakes in your speach.... that is the case with the people who learn russian... and not without reason russian is considered to be one of the most difficult languages in the world...
but still.... for us, native speakers, these mistakes sound really funny

Did anyone notice that our small community of English-speaking forumites is one year old?
When I started this topic a year ago I sort of hoped there would be more people involved... It's not that I gave up my hope but still...where are you all?
And, BTW, as we say "Better late than never": Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas, biggie and all the english-speaking mothers!
By the way, I feel my English is starting to degradate... no speaking, no tranlating and no even reading for more than a year already... I am not organized enough to manage child-care and upbringing, all the household work and supporting the professional level of English at the same time. That's a shame, moreover my job entails translating and speaking English... what a translator shall I be when I return to work after a five-year break?

no speaking, no tranlating and no even reading
that was my situation three or two years ago. but still I kept thinking, writing my shopping lists and daily plans in English, and I listened to and sang a lot of English songs - that's not much but could be really helpful!
Julia&Maria,
how are you feeling now? tired or, perhaps, excited?

Thanks, I feel not bad for my present state (38 weeks of pregnancy) -- both tired and excited though and even exhausted sometimes (my first child still requires much care and attention). In fact, it's getting pretty hard now -- the preparation to the New Year holiday together with preparation to childbirth -- too much fuss it makes and nerves and efforts it takes... But all these are insignificant problems -- the most important is the health issue -- and it's quite OK now and was even perfect during the whole period -- that's what encourages and comforts me before the crucial point.

Julia&Maria,
You are right: the most important thing is that you are well. When so much comes into our lives it's worth trying to live one day at a time. I hope you and your family will enjoy this holiday time together and in good health.

Thank you for warm wishes!
Are you going to return to work soon or you'll wait until your younger daughter is three years old? (Excuse me my curiousity -- are you working at the same place you used to?)

Thank you for warm wishes!
You're welcome
or you'll wait until your younger daughter is three years old?
that's my decision.
are you working at the same place you used to?
yes, officially I'm still there, though this job is getting so much less attractive that I'm not sure I'll stay there for long.

Shall we delete it then?
Seems to be a challenge. This question may provoke some discussion at last.
At least somebody and sometimes is willing to participate in this topic, it is very interesting to read and the links suggested are just precious!
Don't delete it!!! Who knows -- may be some day it will be successfully continued in "Пообщаемся на английском -2" and so on?
I'll do my best not to dissapear from here for a long time... though now it is hardly possible...

Interesting Riddles – Only for Smart People!
Questions
1. A murderer is condemned to death. He has to
choose between three rooms. The first is full of
raging fires, the second is full of assassins with
loaded guns, and the third is full of lions that
haven’t eaten in 3 years. Which room is safest for
him?
2. A woman shoots her husband. Then she holds
him under water for over 5 minutes. Finally, she
hangs him. But 5 minutes later they both go out
together and enjoy a wonderful dinner together.
How can this be?
3. What is black when you buy it, red when you
use it, and grey when you throw it away?
4. Can you name three consecutive days without
using the words Wednesday, Friday, or Sunday?
5. This is an unusual paragraph. I’m curious as to
just how quickly you can find out what is so
unusual about it. It looks so ordinary and plain
that you would think nothing was wrong with it.
In fact, nothing is wrong with it! It is highly
unusual though. Study it and think about it, but
you still may not find anything odd. But if you
work at it a bit, you might find out. Try to do so
without any coaching!
